Gun violence is a public health crisis. Let’s start healing. In collaboration with church partners and nonprofits, a Gun Surrender Event will take place at 5 Oak Street on June 7, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Unloaded, working guns can be surrendered, and those surrendering guns will be celebrated with a gift card.
It turns out, we can do something about gun violence. We can listen to the voices of gun violence survivors. We can work for restorative justice for all. We can bring people together to turn instruments of violence into tools, and create a community where no one is afraid. And we can offer gun owners the chance to turn an unwanted gun into a work of art.
There are actually few places to go to destroy a gun, and there are many reasons someone might destroy one - they may not know how to secure it, they may want to keep it away from a vulnerable family member. Perhaps the gun has been used for harm, or they don’t want to sell it and put it back on the street. We’ve heard all these stories and more.
While the Safe Surrender event is not a traditional gun “Buy Back,” the churches and organizations sponsoring this will distribute gift cards to gun owners as a way to thank them for disposing of unwanted guns. Complete the form below to contribute to the gift card fund — any amount helps!
Want to honor a dad or a mom in the coming weeks? You can honor our mothers and fathers (or anyone) by taking a gun out of circulation with a gift to the Safe Gun Surrender Gift Card Fund. Indicate below if you would like to honor, and give us their email address. We will send an acknowledgment of your gift.
